Rev. Carroll Fields was born to Shirley and the late Norman Fields in Portsmouth, Va .
She received her early education in the public schools in Virginia and later graduated from
Hampton University with a B.S. in Sociology and received her Masters from Howard
University School of Divinity.
While living and working professionally in Baltimore, Rev. Fields worked in several social
service agencies. Rev. Fields became an active member of Bethel AME Church in Baltimore
under the pastoral leadership of Bishop John R Bryant. She was ordained and assigned
an elder to Union Chapel AME Church in Cambridge, Md and then for seven years as
pastor to St. John AME Church in Pocomoke City, Md.
Since July 1998, she has served as pastor to a growing and vibrant ministry at St. James
United Methodist Church in Westover. Here, the Lord birthed the seed of a vision to fulfill
a ministry need at St. James and the community. Working and living out our theme “Let
us Rise and Build: a church, a people, a ministry, a community”, Rev. Fields has lead the
faithful people of St. James to build about 13,000 square feet of new and renovated
facilities. Rev. Fields has taught and encouraged her membership to see the church as a
central asset to the community needs . St. James is not only a place of worship, but our
mission and vision is to help meet the spiritual, social, cultural, educational, economical,
health needs our community. Rev. Fields collaborates and partners with Somerset County’
s Public School, Local Management Board, Steering Committee, Health Dept, Arts Council,
Community Services and Research Center and University of Maryland Eastern Shore for
funding opportunities and services for families in our County. During her tenure at St.
James, Rev. Fields has been blessed to have been awarded over $600,000 in federal,
state, local and United Methodist grant funding to bring programs and ministries to the
community.
Some include Children of Destiny Child and Family Enrichment Center which provides child
care to infants and toddlers and a before and after school program for school age children
and employs 15 staff persons; A Christian Youth Summer Camp; mentoring program,
school suspension program; health ministry; a performing arts ministry, emergency food
pantry and financial assistance services; and monthly training and workshops for youth,
parents, women and men, married couples, etc.
Among her many gifts and skills as visionary, anointed preacher and teacher,
administrator, social worker, motivator, and with the exceptional leadership and support
of her church members, the community is served.
Pastor Fields is active in several ministerial and community organizations and has received
many awards and recognition for her community involvement and service. Some include
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, past president of the Hampton University Alumni
Association of the Eastern Shore, and founder of Womens Koinonia, Inc.
Rev. Fields is proud of her one daughter, Denay
Rev. Fields endeavors to live the life she preaches. Her passion for life is to bring to
some hope, healing and help and the love of Jesus to everyone she meets.
